Welcome to the National Junior Honor Society at

Sojourner Truth Middle School

Established in 1929, National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since it's beginning in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the National Honor Society (NHS) and NJHS. In fact, society chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to further development through active involvement in school activities and community service.

The purpose of the National Junior Honor Society is:

To create an enthusiasm for Scholarship

To stimulate a desire to render Service

To promote Leadership

To develop Character

To encourage Citizenship

The Sojourner Truth Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society exists to give exemplary students an arena to demonstrate and be recognized for their excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, character, and service. The chapter will guide these students as they actively and enthusiastically volunteer to serve their school, communities, and our world, working to improve the lives and well being of those around them. Our chapter will encourage the passion to serve, and aid the development of personal and group leadership skills for the benefit of others.

In doing all the above, I shall prove myself worthy of a place in the National Junior Honor Society.
